How does our Hayfever (Kenalog) Vitamin IV drip help?

Kenalog 40mg (Hay fever Injection)

Hay fever can be particularly troublesome for many, especially during the spring and summer months. Common symptoms include itchy eyes, a runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing, and an itchy throat, all of which can significantly impact daily life and work performance. Over-the-counter remedies, like antihistamines and nasal sprays, are available at pharmacies. However, if hay fever severely impacts your quality of life and other treatments haven't worked, a steroid injection like Kenalog might be an appropriate solution.

What is the Hay fever Injection?

The Hay fever injection is a corticosteroid known as Kenalog, which has anti-inflammatory properties. It works by suppressing the immune system and blocking the body's response to pollen. While typically used for conditions like osteoarthritis, it is also prescribed for seasonal allergies in patients who do not respond to conventional treatments. Before administering the injection, your practitioner will assess whether you are a suitable candidate for treatment and explain the potential side effects and benefits.

Potential Side Effects

As with any steroid treatment, side effects can occur, though they are rare. One possible side effect is dimpling at the injection site. As with all medical treatments, risks are considered alongside potential benefits. All patients receiving the injection are advised to review the manufacturer's information leaflet beforehand, ensuring they can make an informed decision.

How is the Injection administered?

The Hay fever injection is given in the upper buttock and begins to take effect immediately, although it may take up to 72 hours to reach its full effect. It is typically administered when hay fever symptoms first appear and can provide relief throughout the entire pollen or allergen season (usually around three months). The required dose is partly based on body weight. For individuals under 65kg, a 40mg dose is given, while those over 65kg may need a double dose of 80mg for optimal relief.

Cost of the Treatment

The Hay fever Injection costs £65 for a 40mg dose. If you weigh over 65kg, you may be advised to receive an 80mg dose, which would cost £130
